Finding and establishing a voice online is not as easy as it sounds; media professionals and content creators must strive to be relevant and consistent to discover their voice or even their niche online. Having been in the industry for 2 to 3 years and continually updating my portfolio and networks, I have begun to realise that the market is large and offers many opportunities. I have concluded that the style of voice I want to develop is poetic, storytelling, and visually creative, with expressive language. Mixing and juggling through this is the real challenge. Every frame I shoot, every caption I write and every story I tell comes back to the 3 words that define my brand and myself. These words help me understand how I can show up on digital platforms and build my brand.

Being a storyteller means I constantly strive to immerse people in a narrative. Whether it’s through a photo essay, a TikTok video, or even the news stories I cover, I want my viewers to feel like they are stepping into a world with a beginning, middle, and a sense of meaning.

My poetic side is my style of writing, I tend to write towards the lines that make you feel the emotions, imagery and rhythm. Even simple captions, I tend to overkill.

As I continue building my voice online, I’m trying to make every post feel like part of a larger body of work. My 3-word brand is becoming my compass, guiding me in shaping my tone, visuals, and the stories I choose to tell.

My goal isn't to go viral; it’s to be understood. Not by followers but by feeling.

If someone can see a photo or read a line and say, “That feels like Pavan,” then I know I’m doing something right.

Creators who inspire me and align with my goals as a media professional.

  1. gulfbuzz - Their Instagram presence works because they’re fast, clear, and always on top of what people in the UAE care about. Their short, engaging Reels make local stories feel fun and easy to follow, and they post consistently enough that their content becomes part of your daily scroll. They understand how to turn simple updates into shareable moments — and that’s what makes their online voice so effective.

  2. Peter McKinnon - I admire Peter McKinnon because he makes filmmaking and photography feel exciting and accessible. His videos are cinematic, energetic, and educational without ever feeling boring. He has a clear style, he’s consistent, and he knows how to tell a story while teaching — that’s what makes his online presence so effective.

My Key Takeaways : Nytimes

  • Maintain Neutrality: Journalists should avoid expressing partisan opinions or endorsements, even on personal accounts, as it can reflect on the Times.

  • Think Before Posting: Every social media post should be considered carefully — could it be misinterpreted, seem biased, or violate professional standards?

  • Engage Respectfully: Interactions online should be professional; respond to criticism thoughtfully, and avoid inflammatory or unverified content.
