Building my experience and understanding the concept of a journalist and creator what i have realized about myself and where i want to categorized is that i have a voice thats thoughtful, self aware, visually oriented and reflective. My work does not follow rigid structures of a traditional journalist or a creator, but it does engage with media and my personal expression, keeping that in mind - this is how I would answer these questions -

  1. Do I believe journalists should act like creators?

Yes. I think journalists can benefit from adopting the strengths of creators, which include:

    A) Today's media consumption demands reliability, accessibility, and multimedia storytelling. Audiences on social media are more engaged by a human voice and visuals than by traditional print articles. This is why many journalists are encouraged to develop their personal brand.

    B) For many independent or freelance journalists like myself, the creator format can expand our reach and ownership. We can publish on our own terms, with full ownership of the audience.

    C) Engaging a personal voice or a style can make reporting more human, which helps us to build trust and connection, especially when stories involve people and experience.

  2. Where do I draw the line?

From my viewpoint, the boundaries I would set are:

    A) Accuracy, Verification, and Transparency - regardless of the medium. Standard journalistic ethics dictate that fact-checking, context, and multiple sourcing should remain fundamental.

    B) A clear separation between fact and opinion is necessary. If a piece is interpretive, analytical, or personal, that's acceptable. However, if it is presented as reporting, it should focus on neutrality and fairness, avoiding sensationalism.

  3. How does this influence my final portfolio and storytelling style?

    A) I find that my portfolio is most effective as a hybrid: comb

ining photography, video, and reflective writing. I aim for the medium to align with my message, using visuals to enhance the concepts I wish to convey.

    B) To maintain the balance between creator and journalist, I will be deliberate about labelling my work, clearly indicating when something is opinion, analysis, or reflection, and reserving reporting for pieces that adhere to journalistic standards like sourcing and verification.

    C) I intend to continue using a personal voice and creative perspective, but with accountability. This involves being transparent about what is fact and what is interpretation, and ensuring clarity, fairness, and honesty in all my work.

    D) Ultimately, my storytelling style will merge creative accessibility with journalistic integrity. My aim is to create a portfolio that feels personal and visually captivating while remaining rooted in ethical standards.
